YEG Night In: Your First Virtual Gala

On April 25, 2020, guests will gather online for a social and fundraising event called YEG Night In. The goal of this initiative is to give people a place and time to connect socially online while supporting valuable mental health projects.

The Concept

It’s a virtual night out. This event is a chance to get dressed up, prepare a fine meal, bust out the nice dishware, and crack open your drink of choice to be social online with old friends or new ones. Props, elegant attire, and fancy decor are all welcome. Let’s make this into an upscale online experience… but if you want to show up in sweat pants eating Kraft Dinner we won’t judge.

During these difficult times, it’s important to connect with people. The tolls of isolation can be devastating, so let’s work together to stay social.

How will it work?

At YEG Night In, guests will arrive to a virtual cocktail hour with their drinks of choice in hand, and be placed at tables for the night. Each table will have a Host to facilitate introductions and provide information. Throughout the event, there will be presentations during which all attendees will be brought back to the main group. Attendees’ self-prepared meals will be eaten with their table during the dinner hour. The formal portion of the evening will end with a livestream entertainment program. Following this, guests will be welcome to stay at their table for a couple more hours to continue the conversation or play online games with a suggested list provided.

Supporting the Community

YEG Night In will be donating $1 for every ticket sold to the Mental Health Foundation, which raises funds and mobilizes resources to improve outcomes within Alberta’s addiction and mental health care system. The Foundation’s vision is to ensure an accessible, easy-to-navigate and fully integrated addiction and mental health care system in Alberta.

The Mental Health Foundation supports Text4Hope, a free service providing three months of daily Cognitive Behavioural Therapy-based text messages written by mental health therapists to help with COVID-19 related stress and anxiety. If you’re struggling, text COVID19HOPE to 393939 to subscribe.

During this time, it is important to stay physically healthy and safe, but the tolls of isolation can be devastating too – so let’s practice safe socializing!

WEC 2019: My Experience as a First-Time Attendee

I’m fresh off my first experience at World Education Congress, an event industry conference put on by Meeting Professionals International. As a member of MPI and a board member of my local chapter, I’m an active and involved contributor. After seeing the global reach and impact of the organization at WEC 2019, I care about our community more than ever. This comes down to more than just my learnings over the past week.

A YEG Restaurant Crawl

I had a client with an idea: a restaurant crawl. Planning a reunion party for old friends, he wanted to bring them together to share a meal at several restaurants, one course at a time. As someone who loves to work on new and interesting projects, I of course jumped at the chance to make an event like this one happen. Check out the gallery below for a recap of the YEG restaurant crawl I was able to put together!

6 Reasons To Hire A Day of Wedding Coordinator

I get it. I love planning events, and for many people, their wedding is one of few opportunities they will have to put a day like this together. I count myself lucky that this is what I do for a living, but it can be incredibly stressful. If you want to do your own planning, it’s still important that you enjoy your big day. The best way to ensure this happens is to hire a Day of Wedding Coordinator.

Community Event: Salisbury in Bloom

I was lucky enough recently to help plan and coordinate a spring community event at Salisbury Village in Sherwood Park. I’ve worked with my friends at Avillia Developments for a few years now, and in that time I have been able to get to know Salisbury Village well. This area is a beautiful residential and commercial development just south of Wye Road in Sherwood Park, and it’s always a pleasure to spend time here.

Letters from Pluto - Live in Space! Concert photos

Live in Space Concert Gallery

2016 was a whirlwind year, and one of the most exciting projects I worked on was Live in Space!, a concert planned in conjunction with Edmonton musician Letters from Pluto. Presented by Lexus of Edmonton, this event was an OUT OF THIS WORLD experience incorporating a live concert by Letters from Pluto paired with a laser show and projections from outer space. Today I am sharing a gallery of some of my favourite photos from that evening.
