50 years together is a crazy milestone to celebrate with any couple, but I was lucky enough to be able to put together a party to celebrate the 50 years my own grandparents have spent together. My mom, my aunt, and I worked together to plan a surprise party for them. Keeping it a secret was not without its trials and tribulations, but in the end all the work and sneaking around was worth it. We were able to surprise them with a magical evening full of laughter, friends, and family.
Because the event was in Kamloops and we were working on it from all over the place (namely Edmonton, Kelowna, and Waikoloa, Hawaii), we kept things pretty simple. I didn’t want to have to worry about any crazy last minute decor issues when I was only arriving 24 hours before the party!
Here are the vendors we worked with:
Venue: Hotel 540 – Mountainview Terrace Room
Decor Rentals: First Comes Love Gowns & Events – this included chair covers and chair ties
Centerpieces: My mom actually took care of these. She spray painted mats found at Pier 1, collected milk bottles, and picked up Costco flowers the day of the event. She also got one bottle handpainted by a friend as a takeaway gift.
Cake: Cocoa Dot Cakes – It was a carrot cake with cream cheese icing, my Grampa’s favourite!
DJ: Sounds Good DJ Service
Event Photos: Rozalind Ewashina Photography
Thanks to Rozalind for allowing me to feature the photos in this gallery. She was an absolutely delightful addition to the event, and didn’t she capture the evening beautifully?
Cheers,
KG
