I get it. I love planning events, and for many people, their wedding is one of few opportunities they will have to put a day like this together. I count myself lucky that this is what I do for a living, but it can be incredibly stressful. If you want to do your own planning, it’s still important that you enjoy your big day. The best way to ensure this happens is to hire a Day of Wedding Coordinator.
Having a full planner isn’t for everyone. Though I am an advocate for that route, I’ll steer clear of that suggestion for today. Not everyone wants to go full service, and not everyone can afford it. But it’s worth finding room in the budget for a Day of Wedding Coordinator, and I’m going to tell you why.
The details will be perfect
Most wedding coordinators spend time with you in advance. I do this with all of my clients, so that I know as much as possible about their vision heading into the event. I typically go over the timelines provided by my clients with a fine-toothed comb, and move everything over into my usual production schedule format. This means that all of your vendor bookings and timings get the once-over by a professional, and that is almost worth the money all on its own.
You can’t do it all
It’s true – you just can’t. As much as you might want to be the one putting the final touches on the centerpieces and making sure the photo booth sets up in the right spot, you’re going to be busy on your wedding day. And you’re going to be doing things like hanging with your friends, taking amazing photos, and dressing up to look your best. These are important things, and you don’t want to look back on your wedding and wish you had just been able to enjoy it more.
Your coordinator’s phone will be ringing – not yours
It may be tempting to keep control of everything you can, but on your wedding day, it’s refreshing to have someone else be the contact for all of your vendors. You found them and booked them – now let someone else deal with any last-minute issues that should arise, and get that phone out of your hand (unless it’s to take some sort of cute selfie that you’ll be happy you have to look back on).
Your family & Friends should enjoy the day too
Yes, you might have a friend or family member that could be in charge on the day of the event, but don’t you want that person to enjoy your wedding too? Putting this responsibility on a guest usually means that they won’t be able to relax and catch up with friends and family members in attendance, and they likely will miss important parts of your big day.
Day of wedding coordinator = Crisis Manager
Have you ever had your own personal crisis manager? This is your chance! Your Day of Wedding Coordinator will deal with any problems that arise, many of them before you even know they are an issue. Event professionals are trained creative problem solvers who have seen it all. I personally have dealt with a range of situations at events, from tardy photographers, to extremely mischievous gusts of wind, to missing champagne, to rambunctious farm animals. A Wedding Coordinator will swiftly and happily handle all of these issues, and more, so make sure you have one in your corner on your big day.
No one wants to clean up on their wedding night
Like, literally no one. Maybe you’re lucky and your venue will let you leave all your flowers and decorations until the next day, but this isn’t typical. It’s also not fun for your friends and family to have to help clean up at the end of the evening. Many Wedding Coordinators are able to handle this, or put together a team that can, so that you and your guests will be able to dance and party the entire night away.
The short of it
Your Day of Wedding Coordinator can make sure that the plans you’ve put in place are executed as smoothly as possible, making your day stress-and-worry-free. It’s your wedding – make sure you have time to enjoy it!
